It's not about what you want, it's about what you need
Despite growing up with next to nothing, and being looked down on as a social pariah, Facilier never let it fester into feelings of bitterness and anger. Instead, he set himself up a little voodoo shop on the French Quarter, offering help to those who needed it, his kindly shadow familiar at his side. He never outright gave people what they required, instead pointing them in the right direction, prompting them to search themselves for what they truly needed in life.
This was hampered by his rival, Mama Odie, who turned a prince into a frog. Facilier attempted to show the prince that true love was the path to his release from the curse, but was ultimately foiled by the voodoo queen, wherein he lost his life and ended up on the barge. There, he remains, trying to help his fellow inmates survive the horrifying reality they've been thrust into, and refusing to lose his resolve to the wardens.
They can do what they like to him, but they will never take away his empathy towards others.
